The Creative Brief
The second biggest ballooning gathering meeting in the world, and one of the UK’s top events, the Bristol Balloon Fiesta chose Fonix to provide a full Event TV service for Fonix supplied on site LED screens and to be streamed live online. It’s a technically challenging event with so many presenters being co-ordinated while airborne and more than 40 hours of programming involved.
Broadcasting to the World online, and to the local LED screens, Fonix went live from very early in the morning to cover the dawn mass ascents and carried on into the late evening to capture the Night Glow.
Two mobile camera crews with microwave links were able to cover the site, with a team of presenters providing interviews with the various balloon teams and the organisers, ensuring everyone knew what was happening when and where, and providing information about ballooning and the event. The long range microwave links enabled us to send feeds back from the balloons and the medium range microwave links gave us feeds from around the arena.
Fonix produced several short programmes about ballooning prior to the event, covering how the weather affects balloons, model ballooning, how to become a pilot and how balloons and baskets are made. These programmes were shown on the stations output throughout the event. This event demonstrates how we used a full studio production package alongside our great team of broadcast professionals.
With a live broadcast for over two hours from one of the balloons, the event TV service provided a unique and dynamic service to the core of the event, along with an additional way for advertisers and sponsors to be seen and heard by the 500,000 visitors.
