The Creative Brief
Bournemouth Air Festival is one of the largest events in the UK and attracts over 1.2 million people. The organisers were looking for a solution to help people get the best view possible of the action in the air, as well as giving everyone the opportunity to see smaller events from the Royal Navy and others. One of the issues to overcome was being able to stream content from various boats and across Bournemouth.
This large scale audience is entertained and updated via the nine LED Screens strategically placed along the seafront and cliff tops of Bournemouth. The broadcast is also streamed live online. The complete event television service provided close-up views of the aircraft and ground-based events and attractions and provided up to the minute information about the schedule and details of everything at the event. The nine LED screens are placed at various key vantage points across the entire festival area, some seven miles, so the Fonix team are required to employ several methods to transmit the signals to the screens.
Broadcasting 10 hours a day from the Fonix built studio on top of the cliff tops, and with two roving reporters able to transmit from almost anywhere using microwave links, the daily broadcast received record viewers and many interactive comments praising the service. The livestream this year received over 175,000 views.
