Outdoor projection can be used in many ways. From filling a screen on a drive in a movie, to filling a Cathedral roof with words!
For the BBC Television project "Made in England", the BBC wanted us to project onto the roof of Salisbury Cathedral words written by poets, compiled by computer.
We used 3 x 15,000 Lumen Christie projectors with some clever computer software and hardware, to deliver this mammoth task. After several visits to the site, to ensure the least disruption possible on the day and to measure the distances to calculate the positions of the projectors and the types of lenses required, we set about working with the BBC to create the best effect possible. We also provided a stage, PA system and 58" plasma screens for the staging area where the main live broadcast was transmitted from.
There are several factors to consider when projecting outdoors, such as the size of the image required, projection surface, ambient light, suitable positioning for the projectors.
